Leading online retailer Amazon.com (NASDAQ: AMZN) today announced it has acquired www.dpreview.com, the web's most comprehensive site for digital camera information and reviews.

So far I don't really see the motivation for this move. It can't be just getting a better spot for advertising ...

It raised an eyebrow here, too - I can only imagine that they bought the contributors' expertise and their HUGE archive of technical information for future expansion into digital camera retail, maybe?
Well, as long as they don't alter the site's design for the foreseeable future, I'm cool with it.

One of my favorite photography sites. Amazon is pretty good about letting some of their acquired companies continue to run independently. Kudos to the founders of dpreview, and I hope they continue the excellent and timely reviews without missing a beat.

An interesting purchase. I'm sure Amazon will let the site run mostly in the format that it is now. Perhaps we will just see more links to Amazon on it or the ability to buy direct from Amazon on the site.
