To avoid confusion between the different Netscape products, we have made the decision that the next Netscape-branded browser (previously known only as Netscape 9) will be named Netscape Navigator 9. What's old is new again!
Just a thought, but wouldn't it also help if Netscape would just stick with one name for more than one version? German news site Golem.de has a nice rundown on the names this product had during it's recent history:
First it was the Communicator (4), then just Netscape (with the browser component still named "Navigator") (6 and 7), then with version 8 it was the "Netscape Browser".
But I guess this also happens when you product first has an email client built-in, then not, then ...
I would take a WILD guess that you're going to hear some much bigger news about Netscape 9 in the very near future.
That's just a wild guess though... I'm no betting man or anything like that ;)
The problem is that, like the name change, they can have big news and no one may notice. Tree falling in the forest...
Netscape is dead, everyone uses Firefox, Seamonkey, or IE.
My dad uses Netscape 8. He likes having the integrated email client. Plus, he can have individual profiles on a per site basis that lets him use the IE rendering engine on the 1 or 2 sites he uses that are still in the dark ages and actually require IE.
IETab+Seamonkey
IE Tab is ok, but not as slick as the implementation in NS8. With IE Tab (unless it's changed since I last used it), you have to click the tab to change the rendering engine, and next time you visit that site you have to remember to do it again...every time. NS8 allows you to set permanent settings on a per site basis. Set it once and forget it.
Well, there are also enough people who use Opera and Safari ;-) But true, I personally don't know anyone who's using Netscape Browser|Navigator|WhateverItWillBeNamedTomorrow.
You're in Easy Mode. If you prefer, you can use XHTML Mode instead. |
